Your 13 day sight-filled extravaganza begins…
In New Delhi where you will be greeted at your hotel by a doorman in historical costume who ushers you into a whole new world. India’s capital city is where ancient and modern meet to dazzle your senses. Savor the flavors of the subcontinent and revel in the aromas of dozens of different types of curry, huge oven-baked swirls of naan and the scents of fresh fruits and vegetables wafting up from your plate.
Next, you’ll travel to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal.
It’s nearly impossible to choose which view of this stunning structure is better – so you will get to enjoy it at sunset AND sunrise.
Next stop: Jaipur – the pink city. As you arrive in Jaipur it will be obvious where it got its nickname. Enjoy the sites of the Amber Palace. Marvel at the ancient observatory, Jantar Mantar. From Jaipur, you’ll jet off to Kolkata where you’ll settle into your cabin to cruise one of the world’s holiest rivers, the Ganges.
During your seven days on board…
You’ll take in Kalna, the temple city. Enjoy some of the most magnificent Hindu temples on Earth as you learn how maharajas in the 18th and 19th centuries built them in this city along ancient trade routes. From Kalna, cruise to the artisan village of Matiari; the Bengali towns of Murshidabad and Baranagar, home of some architectural curiosities; and Mayapur, the home of the International Hare Krishna movement. Finally, return to Kolkata and spend some time exploring the flower market and the home of Mother Teresa.
As if all of this weren’t enough…
You won’t want to miss out on the option of adding an extra three-day visit to Varanasi to the beginning of the tour. With its colors and rituals, Varanasi is one of the most exotic locations in an already splendid destination. At the holiest spot on the Ganges, you will have a chance to witness devotional rituals and day-to-day activities of the Hindus who come here to purify their body and soul.
